Tips for Getting the Most from Ella

Provide Context, Not Prescriptions.

Characters:

  • Describe key traits for representation, not exact details.
  • Keep descriptions short and clear.
  • Appearance may vary across art styles.
  • Character updates apply only to new creations (or when you swap characters).

When entering topics:

  • Explain the situation or challenge — skip irrelevant details.
  • Share a rough outline of what you want covered.
  • Providing exact text often won’t produce the best results.

Review the Preview Outline

  • Visuals are described in brackets [ ].
  • The outline contains the core content—read it carefully to confirm it matches your needs.

When to Use Chat Mode

Use Chat Mode when you need help unpacking a complex situation and want multiple strategies and supports. It’s also useful anytime you have a lot of context to share.

Include All Characters from the Start

Add every character you’ll need up front — it’s easier than swapping later.

Use the Right Edit Tool

  • Swap: Replace a character
  • Tweak: Change a small detail
  • Erase: Remove an area or object from the image
  • Reimagine: Redesign the image from scratch
  • Restyle: Change the art style across one or all images

Getting Started

  • What is a "creation"? Any resource you generate with Ella by clicking the "Create" button.
  • Do I need a character to create supports? Yes, at least one character (predefined or custom).
  • Can I create multiple characters? Yes, as many as you need.
  • How long does it take to create a character? Less than a minute. You can regenerate as many times as needed.
  • What if my character doesn't look right? Try using more precise language in the description.

Creating Supports

  • What if Ella doesn't include something I need? Add it in the preview outline before creating, or edit after creation.
  • What are "extra images"? All plans have monthly creation limits and extra image credits. If you run out of credits, you can purchase an add-on to your plan. Here's how credits are used:
    • Image edits (Tweak, Erase, Reimagine, Upload): 1 credit each
    • New characters or character regenerations: 0.5 credits (so 2 regenerations per credit)
    • Extending a creation beyond 10 pages: 1 credit per additional image
    • Failed generations: Free — you are never charged for a creation or edit that fails
  • What if a creation fails? The system will attempt to regenerate in the background. If all attempts fail, you will not be charged.

Editing

  • Can I edit after creation? Yes. Use text editing, tweak, erase, reimagine, upload, restyle, or swap character.
  • What's the difference between Tweak and Reimagine?
    • Tweak: Modify one specific element
    • Reimagine: Recreate the entire image with big changes
  • Can I undo text edits? Yes. You can undo and redo text edits initiated with a prompt.
  • Can I undo image edits? Use the Gallery to restore previous versions.
  • How do I change the art style? Use the Restyle feature.

Sharing

  • How do I share a support? Click Share Link to generate a shareable link. View-only.
  • Can I share my entire library? Yes, via paid plan. Learn more →
  • What languages are supported? Over 80 languages.

Library

  • Are creations automatically saved? Yes.
  • How do I find a specific support? Use filters by character or type, or search by topic.
  • How do I delete a creation? Creations cannot be permanently deleted, but can be archived. From the library, click the three dots on the creation, then choose Archive. Archived creations can be restored at any time. Deleting a character does not impact existing creations.
  • How do I change the title of a creation? From the library, click the three dots on the creation, then choose Edit title.
  • Can I recreate something again? Yes, choose the history icon.

Technical

  • What devices work with Ella? Any device with a web browser.
  • Do I need to download software? No. Web-based at ella.kids.
  • How do I install the app?
    • Chrome: Choose the option to install the app under the main menu
    • Safari: Click/tap the share icon and choose "Add to home screen"
  • Can I work offline? No, but you can download supports for offline use.
  • What file formats for download? PDFs with customizable layouts.

Troubleshooting

  • Image doesn't match the text Use "Reimagine" with detailed instructions.
  • Text is too complex Use "Simplify" or custom prompt like "use simpler words for a 5-year-old."
  • Can't find a support Check if filters are active. Clear all filters to see everything.
  • Art style doesn't work Use "Restyle" to try different styles.

Account & Billing

  • Can I cancel anytime? Yes. While signed in to Ella, choose the menu icon in the top left, choose Account, then follow the prompts to cancel.
  • What if I cancel but have time left on my plan? You'll keep access to all paid features until your renewal date. No partial refunds are issued for unused time.
  • How do I manage my account? Click the menu icon in the library and choose Account. From there you can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your plan.
  • When do plan changes take effect?
    • Upgrades take effect immediately.
    • Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. You retain access to paid features until your renewal date, at which point your plan reverts to free
