Tips for Getting the Most from Ella

Ella works best when you provide clear context and a learning goal — not verbatim prescriptions.

Characters

  • Describe key traits clearly and specifically
  • Appearance may vary slightly across art styles
  • Character updates apply only to new creations (or when you use Swap Character)

Topics

  • Explain the situation or challenge — skip irrelevant details
  • Share a rough outline of what you want covered
  • Providing exact text or detailed "prompts" often won't produce the best results

Preview Outline

  • Visuals are described in brackets [ ]
  • Read the outline carefully before creating — it shapes the final support

Include All References from the Start

Add every character, place, or object in the preview before creating. It's easier than adjusting afterward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

What is a "creation"?
Any resource you generate in Ella by clicking a Create button.
Do I need a character to create supports?
Yes — at least one character, either predefined or custom.
Can I create multiple characters?
Yes, as many as you need.
How long does it take to generate a character?
Roughly 5–15 seconds. You can regenerate as many times as needed.
What if my character doesn't look right? Try using more precise language in the description. Avoid relative terms like "tall" or "larger."
What can I do on a free account?
Free accounts can create visual supports using limited monthly credits. Image uploads, downloading, printing, and collaboration require a paid plan. See plans →

Creating Supports

What if Ella doesn't include something I need?
Add it in the preview outline before creating, or edit the support after it's generated.
What are "extra image credits"?
All plans include monthly creation limits and a separate pool of extra image credits. Here's how credits are used:
• Image edits (Tweak, Erase, Reimagine, Upload): 1 credit each
• New characters or regenerations
: 0.5 credits (2 regenerations per credit)
• Pages beyond 10
: 1 credit per additional image
• Failed generations
: Free — you are never charged for a creation or edit that fails
What if a creation fails?
The system will attempt to regenerate automatically. If all attempts fail, you will not be charged.

Editing

Can I edit a support after it's created?
Yes. Use text editing, Tweak, Erase, Reimagine, Upload, Restyle, or Swap Character.
Can I undo text edits?
Yes. Undo and redo are available for prompt-based text edits during your session.
Can I undo image edits?
Use the Gallery to restore any previous version of an image.

Sharing & Collaboration

How do I share a support?
Click the Share icon and choose Share link to generate a view-only link.
What's the difference between sharing and collaborating?
Sharing gives recipients view-only access. Collaboration gives edit access. You can choose either when sharing a creation or your library.
What can collaborators do?
Everything the author can — create, edit, and adjust supports in real time. Image editing requires the collaborator to have a paid account.
Who can grant collaboration access?
Collaboration access can be granted by Pro Plus and Organization account holders.
Can I share my entire library?
Yes, on a paid plan — either as view-only or as a collaborator. Learn more →
What languages are supported for translation?
Over 70. See the full list in the Editing section.
